Q+A

I have outlined some of my most common questions about processes, rates, and expectations. I keep my business and price structure as simple as possible and always strive to surpass expectations. If there is something else would like to know, or if you would like to discuss a project, I’m happy to help! Get in contact.

  • I specialize in photography and videography for architecture, interior design, hospitality, residential, commercial, civic, industrial, and cultural sectors.

My goal is to create dynamic and impactful images that convey a strong sense of narrative and place. I understand that each project has its unique story, and I strive to capture the essence and character that define it. I believe that a well-crafted image can speak volumes, revealing layers of meaning and emotion that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I engage closely with my clients to understand their creative vision, ensuring that every image not only meets but elevates their expectations. This collaborative process allows us to develop strategic plans that bring their vision to life, resulting in compelling and resonant visuals.

By blending an artful approach and meticulous technique, I aim to produce images that are not only visually impactful but also rich in context and depth, creating a lasting impact.

  • I am based in Toronto but accept commissions both nationally and internationally. Have a project in mind? I’d love to hear from you! Get in contact.

  • My rates consist of a creative rate, an editing & licensing rate, and any additional expenses such as travel, and crew. The creative fee covers the time spent on-site and in pre-production meetings. The editing & licensing fee covers the editing, retouching, and usage rights for the delivered content. Photography editing & licensing is billed per photo, while videography is billed per hour of editing.

    Full-day shoots start between $2,000.00 to $3,000.00.

  • I offer two approaches for capturing a project: the structured approach and the fluid approach. When scheduling a shoot, please specify which option best suits your needs.

    Structured

The structured approach is designed for clients who value close collaboration and meticulous planning. Prior to the shoot, we will create a detailed shot list and a comprehensive schedule. If needed, we can conduct an in-person site scout to pre-visualize each shot and assess the environment and lighting conditions. Each image on the shot list will be included in the final invoice. Should additional photos be captured on the shoot day beyond the original shot list, they will also be billed accordingly. This method is particularly suited for projects that demand the highest level of precision and foresight.

     Fluid

The fluid approach is ideal for clients who prefer a more spontaneous and dynamic capture of their project. This method involves minimal pre-planning, allowing for a flexible and adaptive shooting process. While we will discuss a general direction beforehand, I will have the freedom to adjust and capture the project as it unfolds. During the shoot, I will have access to the site for a specified period, capturing images as I see fit, while adhering to any pre-agreed conditions. Following the shoot, I will provide image proofs for your review and selection. The selected photos for final processing and licensing will be included in the final invoice. This approach is perfect for clients who trust my artistic vision and prefer a broad range of images to choose from.

  • All photos and video are protected by copyright law and require a license agreement to be used.

  • All photos and videos are protected by copyright law and require a license agreement to be used. A license is a conditional usage contract for the delivered content, outlining the usage limitations agreed upon between the client and photographer. With the standard license, you are permitted to use the images in print or digitally under certain conditions:

    1. The content is for the exclusive use of the licensee and cannot be shared, redistributed, or resold to any third party.

    2. If additional parties wish to use the photos or videos, they can either split the license and cost-share the entire commission or purchase individual licenses for the content after the shoot is complete.

    3. I request that clear credit be given when the photo is published, including in third-party digital and print publications such as magazines, newspapers, award competitions, and social media.

If you’re ever unsure about proper usage, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m always happy to help.

Credit can be given in the following formats:

    1. Adrian Stiles Photography

    2. www.adrianstiles.com

    3. @adrianstilesphoto (on Instagram)

  • The number of images we can create in a single day varies greatly depending on factors such as external lighting, scale, and logistical challenges. If we follow the structured approach, each photo will take approximately one hour to shoot, resulting in around 8 to 11 photos per day. However, with the fluid approach, I can shoot anywhere from 20 to over 200 photos in a single day, depending on the project's scope.

  • Please allow up to 7 days for image proofs to be sent and up to 14 days for final delivery after your selection. Video delivery times may vary but are generally within 14 days.

  • The most effective way to reduce overall cost is to split the license and cost-share the shoot with other interested parties. Please see the split licensing and cost-sharing section below for more information.

I am also always open to considering your budget and project scope. On occasion and if the project is right, I even shoot for no charge. Get in touch if you want to learn more!

  • To schedule a shoot, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required.

  • To schedule a shoot, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. The remaining balance will be invoiced upon delivery of the final photos. Payment methods accepted include credit card, E-Transfer, cash, and cheque.

Unless discussed otherwise, all invoices are due within 30 days of delivery. If full payment is not received by the due date, a 10% late fee will apply for every additional 30-day period until the payment is received in full.

  • Split licensing is a cost-effective way for multiple parties to share the rights to use photos, reducing the overall expense for each party. This can be beneficial when different clients or stakeholders are interested in using the same set of images. Here's how it works:

    • Surcharge: For each additional party added to the license, a 25% surcharge is applied to the final invoice amount.

    • Invoicing Options:

      • One final invoice can be sent to the commissioning party (Client A) who can then manage the cost-sharing with other parties as they see fit.

      • Alternatively, the invoice can be split into equal amounts and billed separately to each party involved.

    Sample Cost-Sharing Scenario:

Let's say Client A commissions a photo shoot with a subtotal of $2,000. Clients B and C want to share the license for the photos. Here's how the costs are split:

    1. Client A's SubTotal: $2,000.00

    2. Client B's Split License Cost: $500.00 (25% of Client A's SubTotal)

    3. Client C's Split License Cost: $500.00 (25% of Client A's SubTotal)

    Total Cost: $3,000.00

    Price Per Party:

    • Each of the three clients (A, B, and C) will pay $1,000.00.

    Savings for Client A:

    • By splitting the license, Client A only pays $1,000.00, a 50% reduction from their original rate of $2,000.00.

    Important Note:

    • Split licensing arrangements must be made prior to the final billing being completed.
